Health Reform Tips and News

Keeping up with the back and forth and always changing health reform can be a mind numbing task.  If you would like some help give one our Sugar Land Insurance Agents a call.   Our insurance agency has the access and the resources to keep your family or your business updated and informed about health care reform and the patient protection and affordable care act.      Although there hasn’t been much so far that helps with the affordable part of it, below are a couple of things you could be taking advantage of.

Small Business Tax Credits Small employers, with less than 25 full-time employees, who provide group health insurance to their employees, may be eligible to claim a federal income tax credit, due to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).  According to a recent government report, a very low percentage of qualified business owners are taking advantage of this credit.  Even if companies have completed their 2010 filing, they can still submit an amended filing to request this tax credit.  Consult your tax professional to see if your business is eligible for this credit.

Preventive Care Coverage Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)

Healthcare reform has changed the way preventive services are covered under qualifying insurance plans.  Many preventive services are now covered at no cost to the patient.  But which services are they?  This list can help you determine which services should be covered at no cost.  Most new insurance plans that became effective on or after September 23, 2010 will qualify to receive this new coverage, but you should check your plan’s contract to be certain.
