Upcoming events around the Greater Sugar Land Area

 Be the One Run:

On Labor Day September 5th, next Monday, Crystal Hoffman will be participating in the “Be the One Run”.  It is a 5K benefiting ‘Be the Match’ a National Marrow Donor Program.  The run is held here in Sugar Land and is starting at the University of Houston System in Sugar Land at 14000 University.   The program helps people needing a marrow transplant find unrelated donors.  There will also be a 1K and a Tot Trot.  Proceeds will help with research and to build the ‘Be the Match’ registry of available marrow donors.  Marrow transplants can benefit people with lymphoma and leukemia among dozens of other illnesses.    www.betheonerun.org                www.bethematchfoundation.org

 Golf:

Fort Bend Chamber Challenge

Monday, September 26th at Sugar Creek Country Club.

This tournament is the Chamber’s major fundraiser for the year and all proceeds benefit Fort Bend Chamber programs and initiatives.   We will see if those lessons I took were worth it.  Just in case they don’t shave 20 strokes off my game, I have a friend joining me that used to play for U of H.  That should help.

 Run to Cure HD:

Saturday, October 15th at 8:30 am in Oyster Creek Park on Highway 6 in Sugar Land.

It is the 10th Annual Run to Cure Huntington’s Disease.  It is a 5K run and walk.  There is also a kid k at 9:15 am.

2 months ago I started running.  I prefer mountain biking or road cycling but riding after work and before dark isn’t easy.  I mountain bike on the weekends but I don’t have time during the week to drive to the trails I prefer to ride around Terry Hershey Park.  So, 2 months ago was the first time since high school that I ran a mile.   It has taken some time for me to build up my stamina, 100 degree days doesn’t help.  I am running 2+ miles on dirt trails along a ditch by my house a couple times a week now.  My goal was to be able to easily complete a 5K this fall.  Run to Cure HD may be the first 5K that I try.  David.    http://www.runtocurehd.com/
